We started Atlas because delivering ERP to more than one client at a time is its own hard problem, separate from building the ERP itself. Provisioning, licensing, branding, and access control deserve the same rigor as the accounting engine underneath them.
Why a control plane at all
Most ERP software assumes one company, one deployment. That works until you want to run it for more than one client, or license pieces of it differently to different customers. At that point you need a layer that manages organizations, subscriptions, tenant provisioning, branding, and entitlements, cleanly separated from the ERP logic itself so neither one has to compromise for the other.
Atlas calls that layer the control plane. It is what a Platform Administrator uses to run the business of delivering ERP: onboarding a client organization, subscribing them to a plan, provisioning their isolated tenant, and setting their brand. The tenant runtime underneath, the actual Finance, Sales, Inventory, and every other department, never has to know or care that the control plane exists.
What we hold to
Open-core, on purpose
The ERP modules and tenant runtime are open source. The provisioning, licensing, billing, and white-label control plane is the commercial layer on top. The line between the two is enforced by tooling, not convention.
Correctness over speed
A ledger that does not balance, or a tenant that can read another tenant's data, undermines everything else about the product. We treat those as release gates, not nice-to-haves.
API-first, no exceptions
Every surface of the product, including our own web apps, is a consumer of the same generated, versioned API contract. Nothing gets a private shortcut.
